Camera Gear Customs in Brazil

We move your camera and production gear through Brazilian customs cleanly, using temporary import or an ATA Carnet, and arrange local rental when it is faster.

Who this is for

  • International crews and creators shooting in Curitiba, Foz do Iguacu or across Parana
  • Producers who need expensive gear cleared without paying import tax on equipment that leaves again
  • Solo filmmakers and photographers travelling with kit that exceeds the personal baggage allowance
  • Teams weighing whether to fly gear in or rent locally to save time and customs risk

What's included

  • Assessment of your gear list to choose the best route: temporary admission, ATA Carnet or local rental
  • Preparation and review of the equipment manifest with serial numbers, values and HS codes
  • Coordination of the ATA Carnet or Regime de Admissao Temporaria filing with Receita Federal
  • Customs clearance at the airport or the Port of Paranagua, including dispatch through a licensed customs broker (despachante aduaneiro)
  • Bonded-warehouse and airport-handling coordination so gear is not held longer than necessary
  • Sourcing of local camera, lighting and grip rental from vetted suppliers in Parana as a backup or alternative
  • Re-export documentation so your Carnet or temporary admission is discharged correctly on the way out

How it works

  1. Gear review and routeWe study your equipment list, values and shoot dates, then recommend temporary admission, an ATA Carnet or renting locally.
  2. Manifest and filingWe build the detailed equipment manifest and prepare the Carnet or temporary-import paperwork for the Brazilian customs authority.
  3. Arrival and clearanceOur customs broker clears your gear at the airport or the Port of Paranagua and coordinates handling and any bonded storage.
  4. On-set supportWe confirm the gear reaches your location in Parana and arrange any local rental to fill gaps or replace items held in transit.
  5. Re-export and dischargeOn departure we process the re-export so your Carnet or temporary admission is discharged and no guarantee is forfeited.

Documents you need

  • Detailed equipment list with makes, models, serial numbers and declared values
  • Passport and travel dates for each crew member carrying gear
  • ATA Carnet from your home chamber of commerce, if you are using one
  • Company or production details and a purpose-of-visit or shooting letter

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an ATA Carnet to bring camera gear into Brazil?

Not always. Brazil accepts the ATA Carnet, which is often the cleanest option for professional crews, but gear can also enter under a temporary admission regime (Admissao Temporaria) filed locally. We assess your kit and shoot to recommend the cheaper, faster route.

Will I have to pay import tax on my equipment?

Gear that enters temporarily and leaves again is normally cleared without import tax, provided the temporary import or Carnet is filed and later discharged correctly. If paperwork is missed, customs can hold the gear or require a deposit, which is exactly what we prevent.

Is it easier to just rent gear locally in Parana?

Often, yes. For shorter shoots or heavy lighting and grip packages, renting from our vetted suppliers in Curitiba avoids customs risk entirely. We frequently combine a small Carnet for specialist cameras with local rental for everything else.

What happens if customs holds my gear at the airport?

Our customs broker handles the queries directly with Receita Federal and arranges bonded storage if needed, while we line up local rental so your shoot is not blocked. Most holds are resolved within a day when the manifest is accurate.

Can you clear gear arriving by sea at Paranagua?

Yes. For large productions shipping cases and vehicles through the Port of Paranagua, we coordinate the maritime clearance, terminal handling and inland transport to your location, alongside the same temporary-import framework.
